NSW Governor visits Bradfield City to highlight advanced manufacturing and trade opportunities

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, has visited Bradfield City’s First Building, housing the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF), and Western Sydney International Airport to see first-hand how Western Sydney is shaping the future of advanced manufacturing, jobs and trade. Hosted by the Bradfield Development Authority and joined by representatives from OMRON Automation and Robotics Australia, the visit highlighted how government and industry are working together to drive new opportunities for NSW.

“Today’s visit to Bradfield City, the AMRF and Western Sydney International Airport highlights our state’s commitment to advanced manufacturing and partnerships strengthen the connections that support trade, jobs and opportunity.”

Showcasing Bradfield City and the AMRF

The visit to Bradfield City commenced with a meaningful Acknowledgement of Country by representatives of the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council, recognising the Traditional Custodians of the land and the enduring connection to Country.

Led by Bradfield Development Authority Chair Jennifer Westacott AC and CEO Ken Morrison, Her Excellency toured the First Building and Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF). The tour demonstrated how Bradfield City is being developed as a hub for high-tech industries and advanced manufacturing, leveraging the opportunities of the new Western Sydney International Airport.

The visit was timely, coming ahead of Her Excellency’s Vice Regal mission to China and focusing on strengthening NSW’s trade and investment ties with key Asian markets, including Japan. Bradfield City and the Aerotropolis were presented as strategic gateways for trade, technology and people-to-people links between NSW and Asia.

Advanced manufacturing in action

At the AMRF, the Governor met with staff and industry partners to see how businesses are using shared facilities, specialist expertise and advanced equipment to:

  • trial new technologies
  • de-risk investment in innovation
  • improve productivity and competitiveness
  • support the creation of skilled jobs in Western Sydney.

The AMRF provides manufacturers with access to an environment where they can test new processes, explore digital and automated solutions, and collaborate with experts before scaling up into full production.

Partnership with OMRON Automation and Robotics

The visit also highlighted the Bradfield Development Authority’s collaboration with OMRON Automation and Robotics, a global leader in industrial automation with strong links to Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Through this partnership, AMRF and OMRON are:

  • supporting manufacturers to explore automation, robotics and smart manufacturing technologies
  • connecting local industry to OMRON’s global Proof of Concept Centres
  • building skills and capability in areas such as advanced robotics, vision systems and data-driven manufacturing.

This collaboration demonstrates how government-industry partnerships can help NSW businesses adopt new technologies faster and strengthen their links with key overseas markets.

Voices from Bradfield and industry

“The AMRF is giving businesses the tools, expertise and connections they need to innovate with confidence. Hosting the Governor at Bradfield was an opportunity to demonstrate how our partnerships – locally and internationally – are already creating real outcomes for NSW manufacturers.”

“We are honoured to have shared OMRON’s work with Her Excellency and the Bradfield Development Authority. By combining OMRON’s global automation expertise with the AMRF’s facilities and networks, we’re helping Western Sydney manufacturers adopt the latest technologies, create high-value jobs and upskill their workforce for the future of advanced manufacturing.”

What this means for NSW manufacturers
