Redundancy System Solutions

CS1D Duplex-CPU System

JUNE 15, 2004 (ASIA PACIFIC) - Omron Asia Pacific is proud to present the new Redundancy Systems CS1D-S Series, an addition to the current CS1D Duplex System.

For critical applications which require zero downtime, Omron’s CS1D Redundancy System will be the right choice as it provides users with an attractive standby functionality. With "hot swap" capability, it enables continuous process control without interrupting control operation, thus providing a reliable solution for critical applications.

In a redundancy system, two CPUs (Central Processing Units) will run continuously with one in active mode and the other in standby mode. A duplex unit will monitor the status of the active unit. In the event of failure, the duplex unit will switch control over to the standby CPU unit automatically. Thus, the failed CPU can be replaced while the process is still running.

Besides CPU redundancy, power supply redundancy is also supported. Users are able to mount two power supply units on each rack. This helps ensure a constant power source is being supplied to the system at all times, even if one of the power supply units (or its power source) should fail. The CS1D also supports hot-swapping of faulty I/O (Input/ Output), intelligent and I/O cards, which can be replaced while the system is powered and running.

In addition, the CS1D series also comes with Process CPU which consists of a delicate processor for process control and supports up to 500 Function Blocks with delicate function for process control. Sequence Table and Step Ladder can be created for process sequence. CS1D series also supports Hot Start for process control.

Redundancy in communications is available by installing dual Ethernet (CS1D-ETN21D) or Controller Link (CS1W-CLK52-V1) units. The Controller Link units can be configured to be in active or standby mode, and the physical network achieves redundancy through fiber optic with token ring. As for the Ethernet communication, primary and secondary networks can be configured for redundancy.

Should communication of the active unit fail, both above-mentioned units (Ethernet and Controller Link) are able to switchover automatically to the standby unit. Such features can be enabled by simple configuration.

Besides that, the CS1D Series Programmable Controller is compatible with a wide variety of communication platforms such as FL-Net, Profibus-DP, DeviceNet, CompoNet and other open networks. On-site monitoring, email data monitoring, alarm alert and preventive maintenance features can also be supported.

Omron’s new CS1D-S series uses a single CPU (i.e. Simplex system). These series inherited the features of the CS1D-Duplex, except for CPU redundancy, in addressing non-critical control applications which demand system availability on redundant power supply and network connectivity.
